Problem solver πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ Systems thinker 🧩 Collaborator 🀝 Storyteller ✨ Crafter πŸ’Ž

Curious by nature, the challenge of solving complex problems and exploring solutions is my happy place. You’ll often find me having a great time crafting the finer details and rallying the team to deliver quality experiences.

Background

With 15 years of experience across product design disciplines (UX, UI, motion and content), I’m a seasoned designer with a wide range of skills.

I’ve spent the last four years working for Meta. As a product designer at Meta I’m also a business thinker, solving ambiguous problems in a fast paced and ever changing landscape of priorities. I’ve worked across the Workplace product, internal employee productivity tooling and external Integrity tools.

I have a background in psychology and graphic design and went to Bournemouth University to gain a degree in Interaction Design and development. Starting my career as a designer and front-end engineer, (building Flash and HTML sites for agencies), I then opted to specialise in design, concentrating on UX/UI/Product. I’ve worked in a mixture of environments from contract gigs to permanent roles, in-house at exciting startups and top global tech companies as well as for renowned advertising agencies.

More about me

Well you’ve got this far, so I’ll take the opportunity to tell you a little more about myself.

Work hard and see the world, probably best describes my life approach.

Design brings me challenges I love to tackle and you’ll find me based in leafy Surrey, based out of my hand-built garden office.

Outside of work I like to be outdoors, travelling often – with a second base in Peru. Together my Peruvian husband and I rescued a huge piece of rainforest from deforestation in the Amazon region of Peru, are protecting the majority of it but also choose to run a small organic cacao farm, producing beans to make chocolate.

Recommendations

I’m a great collaborator and working as part of a team or closely with my peers makes me thrive. I’ve worked with a huge range of talented folks across the globe, learning something new from everyone I meet.

Jo is a fantastic product designer and untangler of complex problems. I was fortunate to work with Jo for a long period during our time at Meta. Jo led design on several strategic initiatives that delivered significant impact for our product’s customers and their users. Collaboration with Jo was a breeze, even when she was (rightly!) challenging my perspective.

Jon Burton, Product leader in Growth, Marketplaces and ML — Meta

Jo is the kind of partner that not only drives work forward, but also makes you a better designer in the process. I had the pleasure of working directly with Jo on some high-level strategic initiatives that required a level of planning, systems refinement, visual fidelity, and communication that she consistently up-leveled. Her expertise in the projects we worked on was felt in every element.

She sharpened my craft and made our whole team have better processes to have more consistent results. Jo has a strong design presence wherever she is placed and advocates for the betterment of the product, the business, and the user in a balanced and thoughtful way.

I count myself incredibly lucky to have gotten to work alongside her for quite a few projects and look forward to our next collaboration.

Justice Juraschek, Product Design — Meta

Jo was an invaluable asset to the org-wide program to encourage front-end reviews by designers. As a strategic partner, she demonstrated exceptional communication skills throughout the project, always keeping the brief, notes, and meeting logs organized. This proactive approach ensured seamless collaboration and alignment between us as co-drivers of this initiative.

Jo’s passion for quality and attention to detail were evident in her work. She went above and beyond by connecting us with other designers, and setting a timeline to develop guides and presentations. Thanks to her efforts, we successfully showcased these materials during Design all Hands and the EE Summit.

In addition to her collaborative skills, Jo played a crucial role in improving systems and prioritizing tasks. Her influence on the guidelines was significant, as she developed a template for ways of working. This adaptation made the program more robust and adaptable to various team needs.

Jo would be a tremendous asset to any team looking for a collaborative problem solver, and detail-oriented designer who consistently demonstrates a commitment to quality.

The perfect blend of product design, personality and care in her work. Jo joined a project that was inflight and part of a larger programme of work hitting the ground running and adding value immediately. Her attention to detail, creative thinking and generally bright and positive attitude made each conversation, meeting and workshop constructive but enjoyable. Her mastery of sketch and approach to product design was a blessing to our team under tough timelines. An asset to any team and company whoever gets the pleasure of working with her next.
